The role
You will have the opportunity to work in an interesting and varied role in the team responsible for Viaplay Group’s planning and forecasting processes, management reporting, business performance review process and development and governance of key financial systems. By balancing strategic vision, financial acumen, and operational management, the SVP Group Business Controller plays a pivotal role in shaping the company’s financial health and long-term success.
This position combines operational and strategical capabilities with more complex analytical tasks.
Strong communication skills are important as there are many different stakeholders within the Group Management as well as within the Finance function
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Ownership of the finance management framework from a Group Business Control perspective, leading the budgeting process and quarterly reviews, forecasting, long-term financial planning, analysing performance trends, and providing insights to guide executive decision-making.
- Coordination and consolidation of the local markets business performance, leading strategic initiatives and developing robust business cases.
- Speaking partner to business controllers and Legal entity controllers regarding e.g. CFM, forecasting process and reporting process related matters
- Responsible and accountable for all aspects of efficient cash and debt management.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement strategies, evaluate investment opportunities, and drive initiatives to enhance profitability and efficiency.
- Monitor and control expenses, develop cost control measures, oversee profitability analysis, and conduct variance analysis to optimize cost structures and address discrepancies.
- Design and manage KPIs and metrics, oversee financial reporting and presentations for senior management, and ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and regulations.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO, CFO and other key executives, provide financial insights and risk assessments for strategic initiatives, and foster cross-functional collaboration to align financial objectives with business goals.
- Support investor relations efforts by contributing to earnings reports and financial communications.
- Lead and develop finance teams, promote a culture of continuous improvement and financial accountability, and mentor finance professionals to foster growth and development.
- Optimize financial processes and systems, implement technologies to enhance reporting and analysis, and drive automation and digitization of financial workflows for greater efficiency.
What we’re looking for
We understand you may feel confident ticking certain boxes more than others and that’s why we always keep an open mind in our recruitment process. But, in order to thrive in this role, we do believe you’ll have at least some experience in the following:
- +10 years progressive professional experience from Finance/Controller positions preferably in the media industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Experience in a listed company is a must.
- Academic degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field
- Proven track record in strategic financial planning, forecasting, and cost management.
- Expertise in financial planning & analysis (FP&A), budgeting, and variance analysis with strong understanding of accounting principles, regulatory compliance and risk management.
- Proficiency in financial management systems and ERP tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle); and advanced analytical and data modelling skills using tools like Excel, Power BI, or Tableau.
- Ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights, evaluate investment opportunities, align financial strategies with business goals, and solve problems with a focus on driving profitability and operational efficiency.
- Strong executive presence with excellent communication and presentation skills to convey financial insights.
- High integrity and ethical standards in managing financial operations, and adaptability with proactive decision-making in dynamic business environments.
- Robust leadership skills with the ability to lead and develop high-performing finance teams, drive change, promote process improvements, foster a culture of financial discipline, and collaborate cross-functionally at the executive level.
- Self-motivated with ability to develop new ways of doing things (improve processes, reporting etc)
