Senior Data Engineer
At Viaplay Group, we entertain millions of people every day through our streaming services, radio networks, and TV channels. We believe in the power of content not just as a way of telling stories and touching lives, but also expanding worlds.
We’re looking for the best people to join us on our journey. Right now, we’re searching for a Senior Data Engineer in our Stockholm office – are you ready to hit play on an exciting career change?
The Role
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be a technical leader in our growing data team. You'll work closely with product, analytics, and commercial teams to shape our data architecture and drive the evolution of our platform. Our stack is built on Databricks running on AWS, supporting both batch and real-time data pipelines. You'll design scalable systems using PySpark and modern lakehouse patterns, and help define what excellent data engineering looks like across the company.
You'll own and evolve our Unity Catalog setup, ensuring robust data governance, lineage, and access control as the platform scales. In addition, you'll play a central role in mentoring, influencing technical direction, and supporting a modern data-driven culture at Viaplay.
What You Will Be Doing:
Design and build robust, scalable batch and streaming data pipelines on Databricks
Own and develop our Unity Catalog implementation - governance, lineage, and access policies
Help shape our long-term data platform strategy and tooling
Ensure the quality, performance, and reliability of our data products
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet business and analytics needs
Champion engineering best practices: clean code, testing, observability, peer reviews
Mentor and guide other engineers through technical leadership and knowledge sharing
What we’re looking for
We understand you may feel confident ticking certain boxes more than others and that’s why we always keep an open mind in our recruitment process. But, in order to thrive in this role, we do believe you’ll have at least some experience in the following:
5+ years of experience in data engineering, with a proven track record in a senior or lead capacity
Strong hands-on experience with Databricks and PySpark
Solid understanding of Unity Catalog, data governance, and access control patterns
Deep knowledge of AWS Cloud services and infrastructure
Hands-on experience with streaming frameworks
Strong programming skills in Python (Scala/Java is a plus)
Familiarity with data modeling, versioning, and orchestration tools
It’s a bonus if you have:
Infrastructure as code and CI/CD experience
Focus on developer experience and platform scalability
Contributions to open-source or internal engineering communities
