The Role
As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Viaplay, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our data-driven products and services. Operating at the intersection of personalization, customer engagement, and operational intelligence, you'll lead the design and deployment of cutting-edge ML systems that directly impact millions of users.
Your work will extend beyond model development, you'll be a strategic partner to stakeholders across product, tech, and commercial teams, translating business objectives into scalable ML solutions. From enhancing recommendation engines to unlocking deep user insights and enabling smarter decision-making across the organization, your contributions will be central to Viaplay’s continued growth and innovation.
You’ll join a high-performing, inclusive, and curious team of ML Engineers, Data Scientists, Analysts, and Data Engineers. What You’ll Be Doing
- Design, develop, and deploy scalable machine learning models for recommendation, prediction, and classification tasks
- Perform advanced statistical analyses to uncover trends in user behavior, content performance, and platform usage
- Translate business challenges into structured machine learning problems and deliver measurable solutions
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, content, commercial, and marketing teams to drive strategic, data-informed decisions
- Build robust, production-ready pipelines and monitor ML systems in a cloud-native environment
- Contribute to a culture of experimentation, innovation, and continuous learning within the data team
- Take ownership and drive end-to-end machine learning projects, from ideation and stakeholder alignment to development, deployment, and post-launch evaluation
- Facilitate Data scientist/Machine learning engineer forums to share best practices and ideas
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about creating real-world impact through machine learning and thrives in a collaborative environment. You don’t have to tick every single box, if you have relevant experience and are eager to learn and grow, we’d love to hear from you.
Desired skills:
- Experience working on machine learning projects end-to-end, from problem definition and stakeholder alignment to deployment and performance monitoring in production
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in applied Machine Learning or Data Science within production environments
- Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Airflow, enabling reliable ML pipeline execution and monitoring
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, you enjoy working with cross-functional teams and can explain technical ideas clearly to different audiences
- A focus on building ML systems that are not just performant, but also reliable, transparent, and maintainable
- Comfortable working in an agile team where priorities evolve and learning is ongoing
- Background in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience)
It’s a bonus if you have:
- Experience with recommender systems, content optimization, or personalization
- Familiarity with A/B testing platforms or causal inference techniques
- Knowledge of MLOps practices like CI/CD for ML, monitoring, and observability
- Exposure to real-time or near-real-time ML architectures and streaming data systems
- Experience in media, streaming, or e-commerce environments
