At Viaplay Group, we entertain millions of people every day through our streaming services, radio networks, and TV channels. We believe in the power of content not just as a way of telling stories and touching lives, but also expanding worlds.
We’re looking for the best people to join us on our journey. Right now, we’re searching for a Head of Data Platform in our Stockholm office – are you ready to hit play on an exciting career change?
About the Opportunity
Viaplay Group is in the midst of an exciting transformation, modernizing our data landscape to power the future of entertainment. We’re evolving from current systems toward a next-generation cloud-based data platform.
To lead this journey, we’re looking for a people-centered and visionary Head of Data Platform, someone who combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership, empathy, and the ability to inspire teams through change. You’ll play a central role in building the foundation that connects our data, our people, and our purpose.
The Role
As Head of Data Platform, you’ll be responsible for shaping Viaplay’s data infrastructure for the future, ensuring the organization has clean, well-structured, and trusted data. You’ll define the strategy, guide the architecture, and lead a talented team of data engineers and platform specialists through one of our most important transformations.
You’ll not only build great systems – you’ll build great people.
In this role, you will:
- Enhance Viaplay’s analytical capabilities by ensuring data infrastructure and pipelines are optimized for data-driven decision-making and actionable business insights.
- Lead the transformation to a modern, cloud-based platform, leveraging state-of-the-art technologies (Databricks, BigQuery, or similar)
- Define and execute the platform roadmap, balancing innovation with stability and scalability
- Partner closely with business, product, and leaders to create shared understanding and alignment around data strategy
- Champion clear communication, transparency, and trust across teams and stakeholders
- Drive pilot initiatives to test and validate new technologies before full-scale rollout
- Advocate for data reliability, governance, and quality – ensuring the platform is robust, secure, and fit for the future
- Create an environment where people feel inspired, supported, and motivated to do their best work
Who we are looking for
We understand you may feel confident ticking certain boxes more than others, and that’s why we always keep an open mind in our recruitment process. But, to thrive in this role, we do believe you’ll have at least some experience in the following:
- Proven experience leading large-scale data platform modernization or cloud migration initiatives
- Strong understanding of data architecture, data pipelines, and modern data ecosystems
- Hands-on experience with one or more technologies such as Databricks, BigQuery, Snowflake, Spark, or similar
- A people-first leadership style – you coach, listen, and communicate clearly, even in complex situations
- Familiarity with data governance, security, and compliance in regulated environments
It’s a bonus if you have:
- Experience migrating ETL pipelines, modernising data warehouses, or automating data operations
What we offer you
- The opportunity to build something from the ground up – a modern data platform and a high-performing team.
- Technical ownership and creative freedom - shaping architecture, tools, and best practices.
- We’ve got you covered! 30 days of paid vacation every year, an attractive pension and insurance scheme, and generous parental leave pay lift.
- Your wellbeing matters. We provide you with various wellbeing initiatives including wellness allowance.
- Flexibility that works. We follow a hybrid model with at least three days a week in the office, giving you the best mix of collaboration and focus time.
- A safe space to grow and up-skill. Our learning culture puts you in the driver’s seat of your own development.
- An innovative environment with Hack Days once a year. This week-long initiative allows you to think outside the box and deliver creative, technical solutions that (more often than not) go on to be implemented, either in our product or our ways of working.
- Entertainment is what we love, and entertainment is what we do. So, unlimited access to Viaplay seems only fair for you to get to know the product – including serier & viewing events, new release movie rentals, linear channels and more.
