Machine Learning engineer
At Viaplay Group, we entertain millions of people every day through our streaming services, radio networks, and TV channels. We believe in the power of content not just as a way of telling stories and touching lives, but also expanding worlds.
We’re looking for the best people to join us on our journey. Right now, we’re searching for a Machine Learning Engineer in our Stockholm office – are you ready to hit play on an exciting career change?
The Role
As a Machine Learning Engineer at Viaplay, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of our data-driven products and services. Working at the intersection of personalization, customer engagement, and operational intelligence, you’ll design and deploy state-of-the-art ML systems that directly impact millions of users across our platform.
Your responsibilities will extend far beyond model development. You’ll act as a strategic partner to product, engineering, and commercial teams, translating business objectives into scalable, high-impact ML solutions. Whether enhancing our recommendation engines, uncovering deep user insights, or enabling smarter decision-making across the organization, your work will be central to Viaplay’s continued growth and innovation.
You’ll join a high-performing, inclusive, and curious team of ML Engineers, Data Scientists, Analysts, and Data Engineers. Together, we foster a culture of experimentation, shared ownership, and technical excellence. Our recommender system already powers engaging user experiences, and we’re only at the beginning of our machine learning journey.
What You’ll Be Doing
Design, develop, and deploy scalable machine learning models for recommendation, prediction, and classification use cases.
Own and lead end-to-end ML initiatives, from ideation and stakeholder alignment to development, deployment, and ongoing performance evaluation.
Translate business needs into structured ML problems and deliver measurable, impactful outcomes.
Build robust, production-ready pipelines and monitor ML systems in a cloud-native environment.
Conduct advanced statistical analyses to uncover trends in user behavior, content performance, and platform engagement.
Collaborate closely with product, engineering, content, commercial, and marketing teams to drive data-informed decision-making.
Contribute to a culture of experimentation, innovation, and continuous learning within the data team.
What we’re looking for
We're seeking someone who combines technical depth with strategic thinking and a curious, problem-solving mindset.
We understand you may feel confident ticking certain boxes more than others and that’s why we always keep an open mind in our recruitment process. But, in order to thrive in this role, we do believe you’ll have at least some experience in the following:
Proven experience leading ML projects end-to-end, from problem definition and stakeholder alignment to deployment and monitoring in production.
Expertise in one or more ML domains such as LLMs, NLP, recommendation systems, or reinforcement learning.
Ability to build ML solutions that are scalable, robust, and explainable, not just performant in isolation.
Strong experience deploying ML models in cloud environments (preferably AWS) and using containerization tools like Docker .
Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Airflow for reliable ML pipeline execution and monitoring
Solid software engineering fundamentals.
5+ years of hands-on experience in applied Machine Learning within production environments.
Strong academic background in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
It’s a bonus if you have:
Experience with recommender systems, personalization, or content optimization — ideally in media, streaming, or e-commerce.
Familiarity with MLOps practices, including CI/CD for ML, model monitoring, and production observability.
Exposure to real-time or near-real-time ML architectures and streaming data systems.
What we offer you
We’ve got you covered! 30 days of paid vacation every year, an attractive pension and insurance scheme, and generous parental leave pay lift.
Your wellbeing matters. We provide you with various wellbeing initiatives including wellness allowance.
Flexibility that works. We follow a hybrid model with at least three days a week in the office, giving you the best mix of collaboration and focus time.
A safe space to grow and up-skill. Our learning culture puts you in the driver’s seat of your own development.
An innovative environment with Hack Days once a year. This week-long initiative allows you to think outside the box and deliver creative, technical solutions that (more often than not) go on to be implemented, either in our product or our ways of working.
Entertainment is what we love, and entertainment is what we do. So, unlimited access to Viaplay seems only fair for you to get to know the product – including serier & viewing events, new release movie rentals, linear channels and more.
