Senior Backend Developer
At Viaplay Group, we entertain millions of people every day through our streaming services, radio networks, and TV channels. We believe in the power of content not just as a way of telling stories and touching lives, but also expanding worlds.
We’re looking for the best people to join us on our journey. Right now, we’re searching for a Senior Backend Developer in our Stockholm office – are you ready to hit play on an exciting career change?
The Role
You’ll join a platform team at the center of a transformation of our commercial backend. We build and maintain a standardized, flexible, and resilient commerce foundation that reduces technical complexity, helping our product teams move faster and be more creative.
In practice, that means:
Simplifying a complex legacy landscape
Building modern services alongside it
Creating clear APIs, patterns, and capabilities that other teams can rely on
Making it easier, not harder, for teams to build and experiment
What You'll Do
Take ownership from problem → solution → production → iteration
Make pragmatic technical decisions that balance speed, quality, and business impact
Collaborate closely with multiple teams - this is a highly cross-team role
Contribute to evolving our platform from legacy to modern, modular solutions
Leverage AI tools where it adds value, from accelerating development to improving quality and learning faster
What we’re looking for
We understand you may feel confident ticking certain boxes more than others and that’s why we always keep an open mind in our recruitment process. But, in order to thrive in this role, we do believe you’ll have at least some experience in the following:
Strong backend experience (Node.js, Rust, or similar)
Experience working with cloud platforms (preferably AWS)
Experience contributing to refactoring or modernization efforts
Experience working across team boundaries
It’s a bonus if you have:
Experience from a platform or enablement team
Experience in high-traffic/transactional systems
Experience working in ambiguous or fast-changing environments
You’ll thrive here if you:
Have a bias for action - you don’t wait for perfect clarity before starting to deliver
Are pragmatic - you know when something is “good enough” and iterate from there
Are comfortable working with complex or legacy systems
Take ownership and drive your work forward independently
Enjoy collaborating and enabling other teams to succeed
Are comfortable in a fluid, evolving environment
Are curious about new tools and ways of working
What we offer you
We’ve got you covered! 30 days of paid vacation every year, an attractive pension and insurance scheme, and generous parental leave pay lift.
Your wellbeing matters. We provide you with various wellbeing initiatives including wellness allowance.
Flexibility that works. We follow a hybrid model with at least three days a week in the office, giving you the best mix of collaboration and focus time.
A safe space to grow and up-skill. Our learning culture puts you in the driver’s seat of your own development.
An innovative environment with Hack Days once a year. This week-long initiative allows you to think outside the box and deliver creative, technical solutions that (more often than not) go on to be implemented, either in our product or our ways of working.
Entertainment is what we love, and entertainment is what we do. So, unlimited access to Viaplay seems only fair for you to get to know the product – including serier & viewing events, new release movie rentals, linear channels and more.
