We’re looking for the best people to join us on our journey. Right now, we’re searching for a Senior Data Scientist in our Stockholm office – are you ready to hit play on an exciting career change?
The Role
As a Senior Data Scientist at Viaplay, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of our data driven products and services. Working at the crossroads of personalization, customer engagement, retention, and content optimization, you’ll lead the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge machine learning systems that reach millions of users.
Beyond building models, you’ll serve as a strategic partner to teams across product, engineering and commercial functions turning complex business challenges into scalable, data-driven solutions. Your work will power smarter decisions, strengthen our recommendation systems, and unlock deeper audience insights that drive Viaplay’s growth.
You’ll join a collaborative, high-performing ML team of Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers, united by curiosity, technical excellence, and a passion for innovation. We embrace a culture of experimentation, shared ownership, and continuous learning and we’re just getting started on our machine learning journey.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable machine learning models for recommendation, prediction, and classification tasks
- Conduct advanced statistical and behavioral analyses to identify trends in user engagement, content performance, and platform usage
- Translate complex business problems into structured data science solutions that drive measurable outcomes
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, content, commercial, and marketing teams to drive strategic, data-informed initiatives
- Build robust, production-ready data and ML pipelines, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance in a cloud-native environment
- Take ownership of end-to-end ML projects from ideation and stakeholder alignment to deployment, monitoring, and post-launch evaluation
- Contribute to a culture of innovation, experimentation, and knowledge-sharing within the data organization
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a strategic, hands-on data scientist who combines deep technical expertise with strong business acumen and a collaborative mindset. You should be passionate about building impactful machine learning solutions and mentoring others while influencing data-driven strategy at scale.
We understand you may feel confident ticking certain boxes more than others and that’s why we always keep an open mind in our recruitment process. But, in order to thrive in this role, we do believe you’ll have at least some experience in the following:
- Proven track record leading end-to-end ML or data science projects, from problem definition to production deployment
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in applied Machine Learning or Data Science in production environments
- Strong grasp of statistical modeling, ML algorithms, and their real-world applications
- Advanced skills in Python, with solid proficiency in SQL and Apache Spark (or PySpark)
- Experience deploying models in cloud environments (preferably AWS) using Docker or similar tools
- Familiarity with Airflow or other orchestration tools for building and managing ML pipelines
- Excellent communicator, able to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field
It’s a bonus if you have:
- Experience with A/B testing platforms and causal inference methods
- Knowledge of MLOps practices (CI/CD, monitoring, retraining)
- Experience mentoring data scientists or providing technical leadership
What we offer you
- We’ve got you covered! 30 days of paid vacation every year, an attractive pension and insurance scheme, and generous parental leave pay lift.
- Your wellbeing matters. We provide you with various wellbeing initiatives including wellness allowance.
- Flexibility that works. We follow a hybrid model with at least three days a week in the office, giving you the best mix of collaboration and focus time.
- A safe space to grow and up-skill. Our learning culture puts you in the driver’s seat of your own development.
- An innovative environment with Hack Days once a year. This week-long initiative allows you to think outside the box and deliver creative, technical solutions that (more often than not) go on to be implemented, either in our product or our ways of working.
- Entertainment is what we love, and entertainment is what we do. So, unlimited access to Viaplay seems only fair for you to get to know the product – including serier & viewing events, new release movie rentals, linear channels and more.
