Junior Data Engineer
At Viaplay Group, we entertain millions of people every day through our streaming services, radio networks, and TV channels. We believe in the power of content not just as a way of telling stories and touching lives, but also expanding worlds.
We’re looking for the best people to join us on our journey. Right now, we’re searching for a Junior Data Engineer in our Stockholm office – are you ready to hit play on an exciting career change?
The Role
We're looking for a Junior Data Engineer who is eager to learn, curious by nature, and excited to build a career in data. You'll join a skilled and supportive data team where you'll get hands-on experience working with a modern Databricks-based platform running on AWS.
You don't need to have all the answers - but you do need the drive to find them. You'll work alongside experienced engineers who are invested in your growth, contributing to real projects from day one while gradually building your expertise in data engineering.
What You Will Be Doing
Build and maintain data pipelines using Databricks and PySpark
Learn and contribute to our data governance practices using Unity Catalog
Help ensure data quality, reliability, and performance across our platform
Collaborate with product, analytics, and commercial teams on real business problems
Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge-sharing sessions
Grow into owning components and deliveries as your skills develop
What We’re Looking For
You have a university degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field - recently completed or about to graduate. What matters most to us is your mindset: you're curious, self-driven, and genuinely excited about working with data at scale.
Key Qualities
Genuine curiosity and a desire to understand how things work under the hood
Proactive attitude - you ask questions, seek feedback, and take initiative
Basic programming skills in Python
Familiarity with SQL and relational data concepts
Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate in a team setting
Nice to Have
Coursework or projects involving Spark, Databricks, or data pipelines
Interest in data governance, data modeling, or streaming data
Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD concepts
Contributions to personal projects, hackathons, or open-source
Some exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) - academic or personal projects count
What we offer you
We’ve got you covered! 30 days of paid vacation every year, an attractive pension and insurance scheme, and generous parental leave pay lift.
Your wellbeing matters. We provide you with various wellbeing initiatives including wellness allowance.
Flexibility that works. We follow a hybrid model with at least three days a week in the office, giving you the best mix of collaboration and focus time.
A safe space to grow and up-skill. Our learning culture puts you in the driver’s seat of your own development.
An innovative environment with Hack Days once a year. This week-long initiative allows you to think outside the box and deliver creative, technical solutions that (more often than not) go on to be implemented, either in our product or our ways of working.
Entertainment is what we love, and entertainment is what we do. So, unlimited access to Viaplay seems only fair for you to get to know the product – including serier & viewing events, new release movie rentals, linear channels and more.
